Known for its raw, creative energy and use of vibrant colour and ethnic-inspired prints, Kenzo was founded in 1970 with the launch of his first collection staged at the Vivienne Gallery in Paris by Kenzo Takada, a young Japanese designer. Following the incredible success of his debut show with the Vivienne Gallery which also became the home of his first store, Kenzo went on to become a global brand using Asian and Japanese style combined with the expert craftsmanship of European haute-couture. He went on to launch his perfume collection including Kenzo pour Homme (his first men’s fragrance) and Flower by Kenzo which has since become his ‘flagship fragrance’ for Kenzo Parfums.
Since retiring in 1999, Kenzo handed over creative direction of the Kenzo brand to his fashion assistants. Eventually, in 2011, New York-based duo Humberto Leon and Carol Lim became creative directors, continuing to preserve and respect the traditional sense of travel and global culture synonymous with Kenzo, yet also bringing a sense of fun and ‘youthful spirit’ to the new collections.
