Philip Kingsley
Named the ‘Hair Guru’ by the New York Times and the ‘Hair Doctor’ and ‘Hair Wizard’ by The Sunday Times and Vogue respectively, Philip Kingsley sadly died in 2016 aged 86 but left a legacy of being considered to be the world’s leading expert on hair and scalp care, creating a fusion between science and hairdressing that has resulted in him being the go-to professional on all matters concerning hair and scalp issues. In 1953, he qualified as a Trichologist and eventually attained the highest honour as a Fellow Member of the Institute of Trichologists, also acting as Chairman of the Institute.
Voted as one of the UK’s coolest brands in the official CoolBrands listing which is headed by Apple, Philip Kingsley is a favourite amongst celebrities Sienna Miller, Victoria Beckham and Cate Blanchett as well as many more people in the public eye. Creating the phrase ‘bad hair day,’ he set about making sure that his clients never suffered from one!
The first person to explore the pioneering association between healthy hair, good nutrition and overall well-being, his prescriptive haircare is based on hair texture (as in fine, medium or coarse) not hair type. He was the first to develop the famous ‘pre-shampoo conditioner’ and introduce the idea of how scalp masks, scalp tonics and hair treatments are hugely beneficial and instrumental in helping clients get wonderful, healthy hair. These products are available in Frontlinestyle Hair and Beauty Salons in Bath and Wells and are the same ranges used in the Philip Kingsley clinics.
Renowned worldwide for his innovative and highly effective products, a result of decades of experience and scientific research, Philip Kingsley’s range includes the iconic Elasticizer, available at Frontlinestyle at £35 for 150ml. Still sold in the same formula, with one sold every two minutes worldwide and initially made for Audrey Hepburn in 1974, it became the first pre-shampoo, ultra nourishing conditioning treatment. He also formulated the famous Tricho Complex comprising of a combination of vitamins and minerals, forming a hair nutrition formula contributing to the maintenance of normal, healthy hair and developed a range mild enough for clients undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy with his ‘no scent, no colour’ range.
